Indiana Game Notes
Through the first six games of the 2011 season, IU has registered 15 goals. That is the most through the first six games to start a season since recording 18 to start the 1998 season.
RECORD VS. OPPONENTS
The Hoosiers have played Xavier eight times in the history of the program and have won four straight against the Musketeers to increase its lead in the all-time series to 6-2. The last meeting between the two programs came in 2005 as the Hoosiers defeated Xavier, 3-1.
Indiana and Marquette have met just twice prior, with the Hoosiers shutting out the Golden Eagles in both matchups. The last meeting was a dominating 4-0 victory for the Hoosiers in Milwaukee during the 2004 season.
GETTING A GOOD START
The first half has been very good to the Hoosiers so far this season as 10 of the 15 overall goals scored by IU have come in the first 45 minutes.
In contrast, Indiana scored eight total first half goals during the entire 2010 season.
Following a stellar effort at the Notre Dame adidas Invitational, four Hoosiers were named to the all-tournament team. The players included Orianica Velasquez, Abby Smith, Lisa Nouanesengsy and Lindsay Campbell.
Campbell was also named Goalkeeper MVP of the tournament, making 10 saves over the two matches.
ONE FOR THE BOOKS
Carly Samp scored a pair of goals last weekend to give her 17 in her career and move into sixth place on the career goals scored list at Indiana. She also has 45 career points to gain sole possession of sixth on the career points list at Indiana.
Junior Orianica Velasquez has also made a mark on the IU record books in two-plus seasons. With her goal against Western Michigan, she now has 16 goals in 41 career games for the Hoosiers. She is tied for seventh on the career goals scored list at IU and is 8th on the career points scored list.
And goalkeeper Lindsay Campbell has returned to form in her senior season and is moving up the goalkeeper charts as well. She has 15 career victories to tie for fifth on the career list at IU and her 0.89 GAA is the second-best all-time at IU. Additionall, Campbell has 12 career shutouts in goal to hold down third place on the career list.
YOUNG AND OLD
When the Hoosiers take the field to open the season, they will have solid mix of youth and veteran players. With nine true freshmen joining the fold and five redshirt freshmen from last year, that gives head coach Mick Lyon 14 newcomers to mix in with 15 returning players from the 2010 squad.
AMONG THE BIG TEN
The Hoosiers rank second in the conference with 29 saves this season and are third in corner kicks drawn with 38.
Orianica Velasquez is second in the Big Ten with 31 shots and Lindsay Campbell is third with 26 saves.
