Bloomington, Ind. -Although the Indiana women’s soccer team is in the midst of their season, the team has still found time to take a break from soccer and get out into the community.

On August 23, the Hoosiers attended the first annual Latino Summer Festival in Bloomington. The festival was organized by the Monroe County Parks & Recreation and the City of Bloomington Community & Family Resources Department. This function gave members of the community a chance to see some amateur soccer teams, the Seleccion Huracan and the Seleccion Hawthorne Latino, who are a part of the Indiana super league. In addition, the team got to learn more about the Latino culture by taking salsa dancing lessons and were then able to show their newly learned moves to members in the community.

Most recently, the team traveled to St. Louis, Mo., to take part in the Toys for Tots/Military Academies Soccer Classic. On Saturday, Sept. 6, the team attended a Special Olympics Clinic. Every member of the team was paired up with a special needs child and guided them through several soccer drills. Several members of the team also visited a local hospital to bring them some IU spirit.

The Hoosiers will continue to be involved in the community throughout the remainder of the season. On Sept. 22 and 24, the team will visit with local youth soccer programs for the Kicks for Kids promotion. The Hoosiers will attend practices and serve as guest coaches. The IU women’s soccer team will also serve as guest coaches for the Monroe County Grasshopper youth league practices, Sept. 30 and Oct. 2.
