Vierling Receives Award
September 16, 2004NEW YORK - Indiana University sophomore defender Missy Vierling was named to Soccer Buzz's National Elite Team of the Week, announced the organization on Thursday.
Vierling is the second Hoosier to receive the award this season, after senior Kim Grodek was tabbed in week one, Sept. 1.
The Cincinnati native was the leader on a stellar defense that allowed just one goal last week in the Miami Invitational. IU went on to defeat Florida International 5-1 and shutout No. 18/24 Auburn 1-0.
Vierling recorded an assist against FIU. She then drew the assignment of shadowing Auburn's top-point scorer in Chrissy Culver. Vierling held the forward to just one shot in the game, not even on goal.
Each week, Soccer Buzz selects a National Elite Team of the Week composed of student-athletes who make significant contributions to their teams play that week.
