September 19, 1999 HOOSIERS WIN 2-1 AT NORTHWESTERN
Evanston, Illinois -- The Indiana women's soccer team finished the first weekend of Big Ten Play unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Northwestern at Lakeside Field Sunday afternoon.
IU senior Tracy Grose found the back of the net in the 80th minute as the Hoosiers improved to 2-3-2 (1-0-1 Big Ten). Grose scored her third goal of the season after receiving the ball in the box from junior Kelly Kram, who recorded her second assist and sixth point of the year.
Northwestern (2-5-0, 0-2-0 Big Ten) tied the game just 6 minutes earlier when Kelli Wilson scored off a corner kick from Kristen Palmer. The Wildcats had 12 corners for the game, but only capitalized on one as the Hoosier defense stymied their attack.
Despite being outshot 12 to five for the game and seven to three in the first half, IU had a 1-0 lead at the break. Hoosier freshman Jessie Rabin scored her first collegiate goal from 12 yards out at 17:04. IU sophomore Stacey Peterson also collected her first collegiate point, assisting Rabin on the goal.
Hoosier goalkeeper Ashley Davis continued to impress, now allowing just one goal in 210 minutes of Big Ten action. Davis needs just one more win to become the Hoosiers second 20 game winner all-time. Merit Elzey had 35 for IU from 1994-97.
Indiana returns to Bill Armstrong to host Ohio State Friday at 7 p.m. and Penn State Sunday at noon.
