NEW YORK Soccer Buzz has selected Lauren Lamping as a member of its "Elite Team of the Week", announced the organization on Wednesday.
Lamping was the backbone of a dominant Hoosier defense that allowed just six shots and one goal over the weekend. IU downed Minnesota 2-1 in overtime last Friday in its Big Ten season opener. The Cream and Crimson then shutout Iowa 1-0 for its first 2-0 start in league play since 1996.
It is the first time in her career that Lamping was named to the weekly team honor. The award comes just two days after she was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week.
It is only the third time in school history that a Hoosier was named to the Elite Team of the Week. Lamping joins teammates Kim Grodek and Missy Vierling who have been named to the team this season. Grodek was tabbed for her play in Week 1, while Vierling was honored for her defense last week, Week 3.
Each week, Soccer Buzz selects a National Elite Team of the Week composed of student-athletes who make significant contributions to their teams play that week.
