Sept. 22, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team moved up three places No. 19 in the latest adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll released on Tuesday. The Hoosiers also moved up to the top spot in the Great Lakes regional poll also released today.
The Hoosiers are also ranked No. 19 in the Soccer America poll that was issued on Monday, moving up from No. 22 the week before.
Indiana freshman Orianica Velasquez Herrera was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week by the Big Ten Conference on Monday, the first such honors for the freshman. It is the second time that IU has had a player win co-offensive player of the week this season, as Devon Beach did so on Sept. 7 after scoring a goal and recording an assist against then-No. 6 Florida.
The Hoosiers will be on the road this weekend for a pair of games to open Big Ten play, staring with a 7:30 p.m. Central Time game against Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., followed by a Sunday matchup at Wisconsin.
