PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The Indiana women's soccer team picked up its second straight and third overall Big Ten award on the season as junior goalkeeper Lauren Fabbro was tabbed the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday.
It is the first time in her career that Fabbro has won the weekly honor.
" I am glad that she was recognized for her play this week," said head coach Mick Lyon. "She had two tremendous games in two tough places to play."
Fabbro posted 17 saves on the weekend, while setting new career-highs in both contests. She helped IU to an 0-1-1 record on the Hoosiers toughest road trip of the season.
The Carmel, Ind., native started the weekend with eight saves, including seven in the first half, in a tough 1-0 loss at No. 5/10 Penn State. The keeper then broke that career-high with nine saves in a 1-1 draw at No. 29 Ohio State.
Fabbro is the third Hoosier and the second defensive player to receive the weekly Big Ten accolade. She follows senior Kim Grodek, offensive POW on Sept. 30 and sophomore Lauren Lamping, defensive POW on Sept. 20, who have also received the award.
The Indiana women's soccer team has now received seven total awards for the 2004 season. A complete list of the awards can be found below.
