Women's Soccer Faces off With Wisconsin
Sept. 30, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team looks to extend its winning streak to seven games on Sunday as it plays host to the Wisconsin Badgers at 2 p.m. on Yeagley Field. The Badgers are 3-4-1 and 0-1 in the Big Ten after a Friday loss to Purdue.
Behind Kristin Arnold's hat trick, which included the game-tying and game-winning goals, the Hoosiers came from behind to defeat Northwestern 4-3 on Friday. IU extended its winning streak to six games and advanced to 7-1-1 and 1-0 in Big Ten play.
In the game's 86th minute, Lindsay McCarthy played a through ball into the box on Arnold's left, and Arnold recorded the hat trick by beating Northwestern goalkeeper Lauren Johnston with a low shot that just cleared Johnston's diving save attempt. Arnold's hat trick was the first since Sept. 30, 2004, when McCarthy recorded a hat trick against Oakland.
The Hoosiers jumped out to an early lead on Arnold's first goal of the game and second of the season in the game's 11th minute. Arnold beat Johnston after Chloe McKay made a nice pass into the box for the assist. Indiana stayed aggressive and extended the lead to two just under five minutes later on a header by McCarthy off of a McKay corner kick for the senior's first goal of the season. The Hoosiers preserved that lead to enter the half up by a score of 2-0.
Down 3-2 after a Kelsey Hans goal at 92:00, IU stormed right back as Arnold scored just 48 seconds later to tie the game. Off a pass from Katy Stewart, Arnold let loose a blast from outside the box to beat Johnston to the far side.
The victory was IU's fifth come-from-behind victory this season and its sixth straight multi-goal game. The Hoosiers scored more than one goal just twice in 2007.
