Ann Arbor, Mich.— The Hoosiers had chance after chance but could not capitalize on any of them as the Indiana University women’s soccer team played to a scoreless deadlock with Michigan Friday evening. Indiana’s record stands at 5-6-1 after the tie, and Michigan is now 3-5-5 on the year.
Indiana was outshot 13-10 during in this contest, but the Hoosiers dominated in the first half of the contest and majority of the time during overtime.

“I thought we played well in the first half and Michigan played well in the second,” said head coach Mick Lyon. “We put a lot of pressure on them and dealt well with their scoring threats. We are 3-1-1 now, which is a good roll. Hopefully we will continue with our successful spree of competing and seal the weekend with a win over Michigan State.”

A controversial call could have put the Hoosiers in the W category just three minutes into the overtime period. Sophomore Ryan Hanley kicked a shot down the channel where freshman Carrie DeFreece quickly got a foot on it to push it up to sophomore Kristen Zmijewksi. Zmijewksi then blasted a shot from about 12-yards out, and the ball hit the underside of the cross bar where it bounced on the line and appeared to be in the net. However, the referees would not count it and the Hoosiers could not come up with anything else for the remainder of the overtime minutes.

Indiana’s goalkeepers were the key to maintaining the Wolverines scoreless. Senior Shaunna Daugherty started in goal and played the first 45 minutes for the Hoosiers, stopping three shots. Freshman Stacey Van Boxmeer played the remaining 65 minutes of the game, stopping three shots as well.

Indiana will remain in Michigan and travel to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday Oct. 12. Game time is set for noon and will be played at Old College Field.
