HOOSIERS END SEASON WITH LOSS TO NORTHWESTERN IN BIG TEN TOURNAMENT
Dillinger earns First Team All-Big Ten Honors

BLAINE, Minn. ? Indiana (11-9-0, 4-5) will not be able to repeat as the Big Ten Champions after losing to Northwestern in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament today at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota.

Northwestern (12-6, 4-5) was quick to score as Dionna Latimer put the ball in the net after teammate Cathleen Cooke fired a pass across the goalmouth that was just out of Indiana goalkeeper Merit Elzey?s hands at the 2:30 mark of the first half. Indiana came back with good defense, but took only three shots in the rest of the half.

In the second half, IU started out hot with several good chances, including a direct kick from 20 yards out. Dillinger fired a hard shot, but it was stopped by Northwestern?s Wendy Scholz. It was one of seven shots for the Hoosiers in the second half.

The Wildcats posted their second goal at 63:24 on a Erica Westrich shot from 18 yards. Their final goal of the day came on the last of three shots inside the six-yard line in front of Elzey. She was unable to hold onto the first shot, but was able to make another save before Northwestern?s Cathleen Cooke got the ball past Elzey for the score.

Both teams took 10 shots with Merit Elzey making five saves. Wendy Dillinger recorded four shots, and Tracy Grose returned to action after sitting out eight games with an injury and took three shots.

This was the final game for Indiana seniors Wendy Dillinger, Merit Elzey, Anna Hollmeyer, Azure Johnson, and Kelly Wilson. Dillinger earned first team All-Big Ten honors for her efforts during the season, and graduates with all 12 Indiana offensive records in her possession.
