    PENN STATE UPENDS HOOSIERS 2-1
    IN WOMEN'S SOCCER NCAA SECOND ROUND
    State College, Pa. -- In NCAA women's soccer second round action, seventh seed Penn State knocked off a feisty Indiana team 2-1 in front of 693 fans at Penn State's Jeffrey Field. Penn State now plays Clemson next weekend which eliminated Vanderbilt 2-1.

    Following a scoreless first half in which the Hoosiers were going against the wind, Penn State scored early in the second half. Shari Pickett gave PSU a 1-0 lead at 47:36 from about 10 yards center on a pass from Erin Cochran. Also assiting was Kelly Convey. It was 2-0 at 73:49 when Nittany Lion Bonnie Young's strike hit the cross bar and into the net from from 12 yards away.

    "I thought we played hard, we played tough, and I am very proud of our team," commented IU head coach Joe Kelley. "Penn State is a very good team and should go far in the tournament. I also thought that we played much better against them this time than we did in the regular season in September."

    Indiana got on the board at 83:45 as Tracy Grose scored from five yards away on a pass from Carrie Watts from about 35 yards left after an IU throw-in. Grose's goal was her 15th of the season, which is an IU season record.

    Indiana concluded its season with a record of 14-8-1, while Penn State is now 20-3-1. Indiana's 14 wins is a school record for most wins in a season.
