Lawrence Named NSCAA Second Team All-Region
Dec. 10, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior defender Kelly Lawrence added her named to another elite list in IU Women's Soccer history this week when she was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Second Team All-Region team. She becomes the first player in IU history to be named to an all-region team by the NSCAA three times in her career.
The native of Chigwell, Essex, England, was named to the third team as a freshman in 2006 and then garnered first team accolades as a sophomore when the Hoosiers advanced to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Earlier this year, she was named to the Second Team All-Big Ten to become the first player in IU history to garner All-Big Ten honors in each of her four seasons in Bloomington.
Lawrence had a goal and three assists this year to close her career with five goals and six assists for a total of 16 points. She helped the Hoosiers improve to 5-0-0 on the year with two second half assists as Indiana rallied for a 2-1 win at Mercer. The next weekend she had a goal and an assist on the game-winning goal at Hofstra.
She was instrumental in the Hoosiers win over then-No. 6 Florida earlier this season as well as the second-longest shutout streak in school history. The Hoosiers finished their season 10-7-2 overall and 2-6-2 in Big Ten play and fell just short of being selected for the NCAA Tournament. A string of four games in the final eight days of the season against the top four teams in the conference proved to be too much for the Hoosiers to overcome.
