    Assistant Coach

    Assistant coach Ben Sorden is entering his second season with the Hoosiers after joining the program prior to the 2014 campaign. Sorden works primarily with the pitching staff, assists with recruiting, establishes practice plans as well as coordinates team travel.

    In 2014, the Hoosiers picked up 17 victories while senior Breanna Saucedo earned Second Team All-Big Ten Honors. In addition, six student-athletes were selected as NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes while three players - Jenna Abraham, Lora Olson and Kassi Farmer - picked up Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades.

    Sorden most recently served as an assistant coach at Coe College (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) where he coached three All-American pitchers, seven NCAA All-Region pitchers and four Iowa Conference Pitchers of the Year. During his tenure with the Kohawks, Sorden also helped Coe College to three conference championships, eight NCAA Regional appearances, two NCAA Division III Women's College World Series appearances (fifth place, 2006; second place, 2009) and nine finishes in the NCAA Top 25.

    In addition to his time at Coe College, Sorden was the head coach for Solon High School (Solon, Iowa) in 2011 and 2012, where he earned WaMaC East Coach of the Year honors after piloting SHS to back-to-back WaMaC East Championships, consecutive Regional Championships and two state tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2012.In just two seasons, Sorden's team posted a 71-17 record, produced seven All-State players as well as a 3A Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year in 2012. He was named the Northeast Iowa District Coach of the Year in 2012.

    In 2010, Sorden served as an assistant coach at South Mountain Community College (Phoenix, Ariz.). There, he helped the program earn its first NJCAA Region 1 Championship and was part of the ACCAC Coaching Staff of the Year that season.

    Sorden spent three years as a student assistant at Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, Iowa). While on staff, the Beavers earned two conference championships, three NCAA Regional appearances as well as a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division III College World Series in 1994.

    Not only does Sorden bring years of experience and success as a coach, but he also pitched men's fast pitch for over 10 years on a number of teams in both state and regional tournaments.
