Indiana Falls To No. 3 Cal In Final Day of Kajikawa Classic
Feb. 10, 2013
Despite tallying eight hits against No. 3 California this afternoon, the Indiana softball team suffered a 9-1 decision in six to the Golden Bears in the Hoosiers’ final day at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
Indiana’s defense committed four errors, which attributed to five unearned runs.
Meaghan Murphy suffered the loss and falls to 1-2 on the year. She threw six innings and struck out two.
Offensively, Breanna Saucedo continued to produce for Indiana, posting her third consecutive multi-hit game. The shortstop reached base twice in the contest with a pair a singles.
Jena Malmen provided the Hoosiers’ lone run on a bases loaded single to right in the fifth.
Cal used homeruns in the second and third innings to take an early 3-0 lead, and eventually tagged on another three in the fourth after an IU error. In the sixth, Cal plated three more runs to pull ahead, 9-0, forcing the Hoosiers to find an answer in the bottom half of the frame.
Indiana threatened with a bases loaded single by Malmen, but the Hoosiers would not be able to catch up to Cal as the Hoosiers fell, 9-1.
