Hoosiers Close Kajikawa Classic With 7-0 Win Over Portland State

The Indiana softball team closed out its stay in Tempe, Ariz. with a 7-0 win over Portland State in their final game of the Kajikawa Classic.
Lora Olson shined in the circle, picking up her third career shutout after tossing 7.0 flawless innings. Olson struck out two in the win to improve to 1-1 on the year.
Indiana’s offense combined for 11 hits, with Kassi Farmer and Breanna Saucedo posting multi-hit games against the Vikings. Farmer blasted her first career homerun in a two for three day, while Saucedo strung together her fourth consecutive multi-hit performance.
IU took an early lead on Farmer’s solo shot in the second and added another three runs on four hits in the third.
Already sitting with a comfortable lead, Indiana tagged on another three runs in the fourth. Lexi Reese, Samantha Heyman and Saucedo connected on consecutive singles to load the bases for Brianna Meyer. The lefty reached base on a Portland State error to give the Hoosiers’ their fifth run of the contest. A sacrifice fly by Jenna Abraham swelled IU’s lead to six, and Shannon Cawley concluded Indiana’s offensive efforts as she drove in a run on a sac fly to right.
IU will return to action when they head to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Classic. The Hoosiers will face Miami (Ohio) on Friday, Feb. 15. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. EST.
