Hoosiers Drop Second Game at Campbell-Cartier Tournament
Feb. 16, 2008
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Indiana softball team once again ran into a strong opposing pitcher and could not get the offense untracked in a 9-0 loss to the San Diego State Aztecs Friday afternoon in San Diego, Calif., as part of the Campbell-Cartier Tournament hosted by the Aztecs.
San Diego State (5-2) scored in each of the first four innings and then added two more in the seventh inning for all of their offense in the game.
In the fifth, Emily Bergeson drew a leadoff walk and Kari Bettenbrock followed up with an infield single to the left side of the infield, the Hoosiers (0-2) only hit in the game. Stephanie Pellerito grounded out the pitcher to advance the runners to second and third with one out. Karmen Delcamp came up next and hit a grounder back to the pitcher, who looked Bergeson back to third and then threw to first for the out. But Bergeson broke from third on the throw and was out in a close play at the plate to end the inning.
Freshman Alyssa Maiese (0-1) took the loss in the circle for IU, going 3.2 innings and allowing seven runs, five of which were earned. The Aztecs were very patient at the plate, drawing 10 walks to help their offense.
Indiana continues play in the tournament on Saturday against UC Santa Barbara at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
