LAS VEGAS - In their second game of the day, the Indiana Hoosiers (2-4) fell behind early to Long Beach State (4-2) and were never able to get back into the game as LBSU handed IU the 13-3 loss in five innings as part of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic hosted by UNLV.

Junior Breanna Saucedo and senior Samantha Berenter both collected two hits in the game but in the end the Long Beach State offense was too much for the Hoosiers. The Beach scored five times in the first inning with some help from the Indiana defense again.

In the top of the second inning, junior Amanda Wagner led off by reaching on a LBSU error and then she stole second base. Two batters later, Berenter stepped in and lifted a two-run home run to left center field, her first home run of the season and fourth of her career to cut the deficit to 5-2.

But Long Beach State got both of those runs back in the bottom of the second inning to regain a five run advantage, 7-2, and then added a run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 8-2. They extended the lead to 13-2 in the fourth inning with five more runs.

Indiana mounted a rally in the top of the fifth inning when Berenter singled to center field and moved to second on Saucedo's infield single. Kelsey Brannon lined a single into right center that drove in Berenter with the Hoosiers' third run of the game. But that's all the scoring Indiana would be able to muster and the game ended 13-3 after five innings.

Sophomore Meaghan Murphy (1-2) took the loss for Indiana, giving up 11 runs - 10 earned - on 12 hits in three-plus innings of work. Lora Olson came on and pitched the fourth inning, give up two runs - one earned - on two hits.

Long Beach State finished the game with 14 hits and eight of the nine players in the lineup had at least one hit in the game.
