Hoosiers Bats Quiet in 7-0 Loss to Florida State
Feb. 22, 2009
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State staring pitcher Sarah Hamilton tossed her first career no-hitter for Florida State as the Seminoles defeated the Hoosiers, 7-0 at the Seminole Classic. Sara Olson and Jennifer Gluckert both drew walks off of Hamilton in the game.
Indiana sophomore starting pitcher Alyssa Maiese (0-3) kept the Seminoles (10-3) off the board in the first two innings but the Noles struck for a pair of runs but not before a dazzling defensive play by Indiana shortstop Emily Bergeson. With a runner on first, Brittany Joseph hit a line drive to Bergeson, who snatched it out of the air and fired a strike to Stephanie Pellerito at first base for a double play. However, the Seminoles did get a pair of two-out RBIs to take a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, an Indiana error allowed two runs to score in the inning for Florida State to increase their lead to 4-0. They finished their scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mallory Borden hit a three-run home run for the final 7-0 margin.
Maiese pitched the first 3.1 innings and gave up four runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out one and walking one. Ashley Hobbs tossed the final 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on three hits and two strikeouts.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. against East Carolina followed by a 11:15 a.m. matchup with Big Ten rival Michigan.
