Softball Upends UMass 5-1 At NFCA Leadoff Classic
Feb. 22, 2013
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Indiana softball team bounced back from its loss earlier this afternoon with a 5-1 win over Massachusetts in the Hoosiers' second game at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla.
Lora Olson allowed just one run in 7.0 innings of work as she improves to 4-1 on the year. Olson struck out seven in the contest to tie a career-high effort.
After IU gave up a run in the first, Kelsey Dotson quickly erased it when she hit her first career home run over the left field fence to put the Hoosiers up, 2-1.
Malmen added to Indiana's lead with a solo shot to left in the bottom of the fourth, and Meyer connected on a two-out single in the bottom half of the sixth to put the Hoosiers ahead, 5-1--a lead they would never relinquish, as IU closed out the contest and improves to 8-4 on the season.
Indiana continues play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic tomorrow morning when it takes on James Madison 10:30 a.m.
