CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Indiana softball team closed out its final contest at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a 9-3 setback to Pacific. The Hoosiers finished the weekend at 3-2 and fall to 10-5 overall.

Lora Olson is dealt the loss and drops to 5-2 in the year. She threw 4.1 innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits. Meaghan Murphy tossed the final 1.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits while striking out one.

The Hoosiers only managed to connect on five hits against the Tigers, with Amanda Wagner, Samantha Heyman and Michelle Huber each posting RBI singles in the game.

Indiana fell behind in the first inning on an illegal pitch call against Olson that allowed the runner to come in and give Pacific a 1-0 lead. The Tigers then added another run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI-single to right field.

The Hoosiers would use small ball in the top of five to plate two runs and tie the game late. Shannon Cawley started the inning on a bunt single that caught the Tiger's offense off guard. Jenna Abraham would lay down a sacrifice bunt and be called out at first, however Pacific's Taylor Brink appeared to have pulled her foot and the play was appealed and reversed. With two on and no outs, Shelby Gogreve advanced the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Heyman followed with an infield single to third to drive in the Hoosiers' first run, and Wagner laid down a successful squeeze bunt to tie the game at two runs apiece.

Pacific reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a five run, five hit inning that included a bases loaded, two-out triple.

Facing a 9-2 deficit, the Hoosiers showed life with two outs in the top of the seventh. Wagner hit a two-out single to left, and Natalie Lalich battled at the plate to coax a walk and put two aboard for Huber. The freshman drove an RBI-single to right field and bring in a run for Indiana, but that would be as close as the Hoosiers would get as they eventually fell 9-3.

Indiana will return to action at the Easton Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Hoosiers will open up play at the invite with Cal Poly on March 1 at 2:15 p.m. EST.
