Gogreve's Four RBI Propels Indiana to 5-4 Win Versus Saint Louis
Feb. 25, 2012
WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Indiana (6-6) used some timely hitting from senior catcher Cassie Gogreve and solid performances in the circle from Lora Olson and Meaghan Murphy to defeat Saint Louis, 5-4, on Saturday at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial. Gogreve matched her career-high with four RBI in the game while Olson earned her third straight win and Murphy logged the save, the first of her career.
The Hoosiers used a couple of Saint Louis (9-5) errors in the first inning to score the first run on Jenna Abraham's RBI single to left. Indiana tacked on two more when Gogreve stepped in a drilled an outside pitch deep over the fence in right center field to make it 3-0 in the blink of an eye.
The Indiana bats went quiet over the middle innings and the Billikins were able to score a pair of runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.
Indiana responded in their half of the fifth inning and once again it was Gogreve who came through with the big hit, this time a bases loaded single up the middle to score two runs and make it a 5-3 IU advantage.
Meaghan Murphy came on in relief of Olson in the circle after the leadoff batter reached in the fifth inning. Olson would earn the win, going four innings and allowing three runs - two earned - on five hits to go with four strikeouts and a walk.
Saint Louis got one run back in the sixth inning to make it 5-4, but Murphy closed the door on any kind of a rally in the seventh inning and increased the Indiana winning streak to four games.
Murphy logged the save, pitching the final three innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits and striking out three.
