HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Indiana entered the top of the seventh inning trailing Southern Miss by three runs, but mounted a furious rally to score a pair of runs but came up one short in the 5-4 loss to the Golden Eagles (9-2) at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. Jennifer Glueckert had two hits while Sara Olson and Samantha Heyman both drove in a run for the Hoosiers (3-6).

Monica Wright (1-1) was tremendous in the circle for Indiana through the first five innings, giving up two runs on three hits. But in the bottom of the sixth inning, Southern Miss (9-2) broke through with a pair of home runs to put three runs on the board and take a 5-2 lead and eventually had Wright her first loss of the season.

Trailing by three runs with just three outs left, Indiana went to work with one out in the seventh. Glueckert singled and pinch-hitter Bridget Langan kept IU on the comeback trail with a walk. After Kristin King's first hit of the season loaded the bases, Kelli Ritchison hit a slow ground ball to third base that was fielded and thrown over the catcher's head at home plate to cut the Southern Miss lead to 5-3. Then with two outs, Samantha Heyman brought Indiana to within a run with an infield single and the bases were still loaded. Amanda Wagner stepped in next and hit a slow roller to third base for the third out of the inning to cut the IU rally short.

Earlier in the game, Southern Miss got on the board in the second inning with a single run. But Indiana answered in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. Heyman reached on a passed ball on strike three and then moved up to second on a walk by Wagner. Heyman then stole third and came in to score on a single by Olson. Jennifer Gluckert followed two batters later with a single, and after a brief rundown, brought Amanda Wagner home with the go-ahead run.

The Golden Eagles tied it in the bottom of the fifth inning before the three-run outburst in the sixth.

Indiana will be back in action on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT against Central Arkansas. Live audio of the game is available at as well as Live Stats via Gametracker.
