March 1, 2013
FULLERTON, Calif.-- The Indiana softball team dropped its second showing at the Easton Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. in an 8-2 decision to host Cal State Fullerton. Indiana now falls to 0-2 at the invite and 10-7 on the 2013 campaign.
Meaghan Murphy was given the start for the Hoosiers and tossed 0.0 innings. She allowed nine hits in the loss and struck out three.
Amanda Wagner led a Hoosier offense that scattered eight hits. The senior went 3-for-4 with a homerun, double and single and drove in both of Indiana's runs. Freshman Michelle Huber went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
After falling behind in the bottom of the third, Wagner used one swing of the bat in top of the fourth third to tie the contest at one apiece with a towering blast that landed well beyond the left field fence.
The Titans responded with two runs in the bottom half of that same frame behind two singles and a two-RBI triple that rolled to the left center field fence, but Indiana struck back in the next inning of play.
Wagner would drive in the Hoosiers' second run in the top of the fifth, this time on a one-out double that waved around Shannon Cawley who reached on a single to center field in Indiana's previous at bat.
Cal State Fullerton used the longball in the bottom of the fifth to push its lead back up to 4-2 and plated another four runs in the sixth to eventually leave with the 8-2 win.
Indiana will resume play at the Easton Invitational tomorrow afternoon against No. 8 Cal at Noon EST.
