March 4, 2011
ATHENS, Ga. - In yet another gem in the circle by Indiana's Morgan Melloh, the Hoosiers' offense was not able to get into the scoring column against No. 1 Georgia (15-1) and fell to the Bulldogs by a 2-0 score. The game was the second of the day for Indiana (9-8) as part of the Bulldog Invitational.
Morgan Melloh (7-8) gave up just three hits and two earned runs while striking out seven and issuing just one walk but was saddled with the loss. In five games this season against teams ranked in the NFCA Top 25, Melloh has 50 strikeouts and four complete games.
On the season, Melloh has 132 strikeouts to increase her career total 1,270 and move her into 18th place on the NCAA career strikeout list, surpassing Missy Penna (Stanford) and Taryne Mowatt (Arizona).
Georgia's Morgan Montemayor (7-1) took the win by giving up just three hits and recording eight strikeouts.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the first inning when leadoff hitter Taylor Schlopy hit a triple to right center and then scored on a wild pitch by Melloh. Then in the second inning, catcher Ashley Razey hit her fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to center field, to round out the scoring.
