Indiana Bats Quiet In 2-0 Loss To Pacific
March 5, 2010
FULLERTON, Calif. - Freshman infielder Breanna Saucedo had the only two hits for the Hoosiers (5-7) and Sara Olson pitched good enough to win, but the Pacific Tigers (5-7) got a two-run triple from Brittany Hendrickson in the fifth inning that proved to be the difference in a 2-0 loss for Indiana.
Saucedo led off the bottom of the first with a single but was unable to advance and get into scoring position. Cassie Gogreve drew a walk in the second and moved up to second base on a groundout but was the first of three baserunners stranded by the Hoosiers. Kristin King drew a leadoff walk in the third and moved up when Kelsey Stander put down a perfect sacrifice bunt, however she was left at second when the next two batters were retired.
In the top half of the fifth, the Tigers got a one-out walk followed by a single to mount their first true threat against Olson in the game. After a fielder's choice left runners at first and second with two outs, Hendrickson delivered with a line-drive to left field that was out of the reach of Jennifer Glueckert and went all the way to the wall. Hendrickson slid into third with a triple and two RBI, giving Pacific a 2-0 lead.
Pacific staring pitcher Shaina Brock (3-3) went the distance in the circle to pick up the win, allowing two hits and striking out four. Sara Olson (2-4) pitched the first five innings and allowed two runs on three hits while walking two and fanning five. Freshman Jessica Dobson came on in relief and surrendered just one hit in two innings.
