NASHVILLE, Tenn. – All but one of the Hoosiers’ starting lineup posted hits in the Indiana softball team’s 8-0 win over Tennessee State at the Tiger Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
Meaghan Murphy tossed 6.0 shutout innings for her third shutout of the season. The lefty fanned nine TSU batters and held the Tigers to four hits.
Eight Hoosiers connected on hits in the contest, with Shannon Cawley and Brianna Meyer posting multiple-hit games. Cawley blasted her first homerun of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth, while Meyer, Shelby Gogreve, Kassi Farmer and Kelsey Dotson drove in a run.
Natalie Lalich pulled a one-out double to left center field to put a runner aboard for the Hoosiers in the top of the third. Murphy singled to shallow right to put runners at second and third, and Gogreve executed the squeeze play to perfection, plating a run and giving the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead. A Dotson single to right scored Murphy, and a wild pitch would bring in Gogreve to push Indiana’s lead to three.
In the top of the fourth, Meyer and Lexi Reese connected on consecutive singles to put runners on first and second base. Cawley would not leave them there long, driving the first pitch of her at bat over the left field fence to give Indiana a 6-0 lead.
Indiana added another run in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Meyer and another run in the sixth after a Jenna Abraham triple and Farmer double.
The Hoosiers will close out the weekend with a 12:30 p.m. EST game against Saint Louis tomorrow, March 10.
