No. 8 Oklahoma Defeats Indiana
March 10, 2012
NORMAN, Okla. - The eighth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners lived up to their billing on Friday, collecting 14 hits on their way to handing the Indiana Hoosiers (10-11) a 14-0 loss in five innings at Marita Hynes Field at the OU Spring Festival.
The Hoosiers got their lone hit of the game in the second inning off the bat of Cassie Gogreve, but were not able to do anything with it against Oklahoma's All-American pitcher Keilani Ricketts. Brianna Meyer drew a walk in the fourth inning and Shannon Cawley was issued a free pass in the fifth inning but both times Ricketts shut down any IU threat.
The Sooners scored six times in the first inning and twice in the second inning to take a 8-0 lead at the outset. Then in the bottom of the fourth inning they tacked on six more to provide the final score, 14-0.
Lora Olson (6-7) took the loss for IU, giving up six earned runs on four hits and two walks in the first inning. Meaghan Murphy came on to pitch the final four innings and allow eight runs on 10 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
The Hoosiers will play Wichita State and Oklahoma again on Saturday, starting with the Shockers at 11:30 a.m. ET followed by No. 8 Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. ET.
