NORMAN, Okla. -
For the second straight day, the Indiana (11-11) offense was ready to go against Wichita State (6-14), scoring all six of its runs in the first three innings on its way to a 6-3 win at the OU Spring Festival. Samantha Berenter also crushed her third home run of the season to help the IU cause.
Lora Olson (7-7) went the distance in the circle for IU, allowing three runs - two earned - on 11 hits and one strikeout. It is her sixth complete game of the season.
The three hits for Cawley matched her season high, which she had in the season opener against UIC while Meyer's three hits are a season high for her.
The Hoosiers got a RBI double from Cassie Gogreve in the first and was followed by Berenter's two-run shot to make it 3-0 in favor of IU quickly.
After the Shockers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the first inning, IU responded in the top of the second inning with a pair of runs on Breanna Saucedo's two-run double to right center to make it 5-2.
Olson kept WSU off the board in the second before Jena Malmen's RBI single in the top of the third made it at 6-2 Indiana lead.
The Shockers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth but Olson limited the damage and did not allow any further momentum later in the game to preserve the win for Indiana.
For the second time in as many days, nine different Hoosiers recorded hits against the Wichita State pitching staff and the 14 hits in the game for IU is a season-high and the most since March 13, 2011, against Arkansas-Pine Bluff - a game also played at Oklahoma. Of the 14 hits, 10 were for extra bases including nine doubles.
After weather cancelled Indiana's scheduled game against No. 8 Oklahoma, the Hoosiers and Sooners will attempt to play a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. ET.
