Indiana Routs Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 18-0

NORMAN, Okla. - The hits kept coming and coming and the hits kept coming and coming and when it was all said and done, the Hoosiers (11-10) came away with a 18-0 win in five innings over the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff Lady Lions (0-9) at the OU Softball Complex as part of the Oklahoma Spring Festival.
The 18 runs scored are the most since March 28, 1986, when the Hoosiers scored 18 against Northeast Louisiana.
The Hoosiers pounded out 17 hits in the contest and freshman Meaghan Murphy (1-0) tossed a one-hitter in her first collegiate pitching appearance. She also drilled her first career home run on a long drive to left field that cleared the bleachers to cap off her three RBI day at the plate.
Sara Olson was 2-for-3 at the plate including a three-run home run to give her four RBI and a pair of runs scored in the game. All totaled, seven different Indiana batters had two hits in the game, led by Breanna Saucedo's three-hit day. Nine different players drove in a run in the game as well as they batted around in the third and fourth innings to extend the lead even further.
The following inning started with a leadoff walk by Cassie Gogreve and she moved to second base on a passed ball. Meaghan Murphy lined a single to left to plate Gogreve and make it 2-0. Samantha Berenter tripled to right center for her first hit of the season to score Murphy and Indiana had a 3-0 advantage. Nelson's RBI groundout in added another run to the board and was followed by back-to-back singles by Saucedo and Callanan. With two runners in scoring position, Olson lifted a sacrifice fly to left field. Two batters later, Cassie Gogreve drew a bases loaded walk to up the lead and the final run of the inning scored on a fielding error to make it 7-0 after two innings.
Then in the third inning, IU really poured it on by adding eight runs on eight hits. Heather Nelson and Saucedo singled to start the inning and Saucedo then stole second base to put two in scoring position for the hot-hitting Callanan. The junior hit a slow roller to second base and the Lady Lions tried to get the out at home but were unsuccessful. Warrum stepped in and delivered a RBI single to center field to make it 9-0. Olson followed with her long ball to double the lead and make it 12-0. Amanda Wagner and Cassie Gogreve continued the hit parade with singles to put two more on the base paths. The next two batters were retired but Nelson picked up her second hit of the game, this time a two-run triple to make it 14-0. Saucedo's RBI single to center made it 15-0 on her second hit of the inning.
The fourth inning saw Kelsey Brannon draw a pinch-hit walk and move to third on a single by Sara Olson. Brannon came in to score on a groundout by Shelby Gogreve to score the 15th run. Murphy closed the scoring barrage with her home run to deep left field to make it 18-0.
As a result of the win, the Hoosiers earned the third seed and will take on Arkansas Pine Bluff - the fourth seed - in the consolation game of the tournament.
