Softball 2-0 In Hoosier Classic With 2-1 Win Over CMU
March 15, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –The Indiana softball team used the longball to help itself to a 2-1 win over Central Michigan this afternoon at Andy Mohr Field in the Hoosiers’ second game of the day at the 2013 Hoosier Classic.
The Hoosiers (14-13) edged the Chippewas in the hit column, 5-4, and it was a pair of solo shots that made all of the difference. Amanda Wagner drove one out for the second time today in a 2-for-3 outing, while Brianna Meyer hit her second homerun of the year.
Lora Olson got the nod for tonight’s game and threw a complete 7.0 innings. The sophomore allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out five.
Wagner’s towering homerun to left put the Hoosiers up early in the bottom of the first inning, and Meyer’s shot in the fifth pushed IU’s lead to two.
The Chippewas struck with a run in the top of the sixth inning on a single to centerfield. Horan was waved around from second base and slid by Kelsey Dotson in a close play at the plate to cut the Hoosiers lead in half, but Olson would take the circle in the seventh and shut down CMU’s offense to preserve the win.
The Hoosiers will continue play at the Hoosier Classic tomorrow, March 16 at 12:15 p.m. EST when they take on UIC.
