Melloh Dominates Ramblers for 100th Career Victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior pitcher Morgan Melloh earned her 100th career victory in the circle on Saturday, tossing a complete game one-hit shutout against Loyola Chicago at the IU Softball Field as part of the Hoosier Classic. Lindsay Callanan provided a RBI double and Cassie Gogreve drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the Indiana (14-12) runs.
Melloh improved to 10-11 on the year and 100-46 in her career between Fresno State and Indiana. She posted 11 strikeouts, the 10th time she has had double figures in strikeouts in a game this season. It is also her 13th complete game of the year and the fourth shutout for the left-handed pitcher.
Shelby Gogreve singled on the infield for the first of her two hits in the game and Heather Nelson followed with a infield single of her own to set the table for the top of the order. Saucedo hit a grounder to shortstop and as the Loyola fielder attempted to make a play on the ball, Gogreve collided with her in the base path for the first out of the inning. Callanan stepped in next a drove the Brittany Gardner pitch to the warning track in left field for a RBI double. Three batters later, Cassie Gogreve worked a bases loaded walk from Gardner to give Indiana a 2-0 lead.
A walk and hit by pitch in the Loyola half of the fourth inning were for naught when Melloh got Jacqueline Grim looking at a called strike three to end the inning.
