BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Solid pitching paired with a productive offense helped the Indiana softball team to a dominant 7-0 win over visiting Indiana State this evening at Andy Mohr Field. With the win, Indiana has now won its 10th straight game over the Sycamores and its seventh straight victory at home. Even more impressive, the Hoosiers are now 42-6 when playing in Bloomington since the 2011 campaign.

The Hoosiers unleashed eight hits in the contest, with multiple hit games from Amanda Wagner and Shelby Gogreve, while Brooke Boetjer drove in a career-best two RBI for Indiana.

Boetjer shined in the circle as well, closing out the final 3.0 innings and striking four. She allowed just one hit and walked none.

Starting pitcher Meaghan Murphy (10-11) tossed the opening 4.0 innings and allowed just one hit and did not walk a single ISU batter.

Indiana did not manage to tally a single hit in the first, but the Hoosiers’ offense still found a way to generate three runs in the opening frame. The first three batters that dug in for IU drew walks to load the bases, and wild pitch would allow the first run to come across. With one out, Gogreve hit one to second base and was thrown out at first, but Wagner was able to score on the play and put Indiana ahead, 2-0. In the following at bat, Murphy drove a ball to shortstop that was misplayed and put Indiana’s third run on the board.

The Hoosiers tacked on to their lead with another run in the second. Brianna Meyer drew a two-out walk and moved to second on Jenna Abraham’s single to left. Wagner would drive Meyer in from second with her RBI-single up the middle.

A five-hit, fifth put Indiana ahead 7-0. With one out, Wagner blasted her 11th double of the season to right center field and was waved around to score on Shannon Cawley’s single to center. Gogreve reached on her double to deep right field and was driven in on Boetjer’s two-run single to put her squad ahead, 7-0.

A ground out and two strikeouts would end the ballgame in the seventh, giving Indiana its 17 win over the year.

IU will continue play this weekend when it hosts Penn State for a three-game series at Andy Mohr Field. First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 6 p.m. EST.
