LOUISVILLE - The Indiana University softball team (20-15) suffered a tough 1-0 loss to the Louisville Cardinals (27-10) on Wednesday at Ulmer Stadium. An error on the infield and a wild pitch set the table for the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Ashley Warrum led IU at the plate with a pair of hits but the Hoosiers were never able to string together enough hits to mount a consistent threat.

Melloh (16-14) takes the loss, allowing one unearned run on six hits while striking out six and walking four. UofL's Caralisa Connell improved to 14-4 with the win, surrendering just four hits and striking out eight.

The Cardinals put the winning run on base with one out in the seventh inning on an error. Then a wild pitch allowed the base runner to advance all the way to third base. Then Katie Keller singled through the left side and Jennifer Esteban was able to score easily from third with the winning run.

Indiana's first real threat came in the top of the fifth inning following a Lindsay Callanan double down the left field line, her fourth of the season. Cassie Gogreve's sacrifice bunt moved Callanan to third base with one out. Meaghan Murphy was brought in to pinch hit for Kelsey Stander and hit a ground ball to shortstop and the U of L defense caught Callanan running on contact and applied the tag to her at third base when she tried to dive back in and effectively end the threat.

Louisville had a runner at third base in the first and third innings but in both instances Melloh was able to get the final out of the inning and keep the game scoreless.

The Cardinals started the bottom of the sixth inning with a double from Chelsea Bemis and Colby Wherry followed with a walk. But once again Melloh was able to wriggle free of any danger thanks to a groundout, strikeout and flyout to end the inning.
