Olson Tosses Two-Hit Shutout At Indiana State
April 11, 2012
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana freshman pitcher Lora Olson tossed her second shutout of the season, allowing just two hits and registering a season-best seven strikeouts to lead the Hoosiers (20-18) to a 3-0 win over Indiana State (14-23) at Price Field on Wednesday.
Another freshman, Brianna Meyer, had the biggest hit of the game in the first inning when she laced a two-run single back up the middle with the bases loaded to put IU on top 2-0. Cassie Gogreve followed with a sac fly to right field to plate the third run and that would be all the scoring the Hoosiers would need in support of Olson.
Olson (12-11) allowed two hits and four walks to go with her seven strikeouts in picking up the win.
Kristen Felker (2-2) also went the distance for ISU and gave up three runs - two earned - on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.
Kelsey Brannon led off the game with a single and moved to second when Jenna Abraham drew the first of her two walks in the game. Amanda Wagner reached on a error to load the bases before Meyer delivered her RBI single.
Brannon finished the game with two of the five hits for Indiana.
The Hoosiers improve to 14-2 in games when they score a run in the first inning and 18-4 when they score the first run of the game this season.
Indiana reaches the 20-win plateau for the second straight year (37 wins last year), marking the first time since 2006 and 2007 that they have done that.
This weekend Indiana will continue its five-game road trip by travelling to Penn State for three games. The first game of a doubleheader on Saturday starts at 2:00 p.m. ET. Live audio and GameTracker stats can be found on IUHoosiers.com
