Indiana Loses To Ball State in Game One, 5-2
April 14, 2010
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Hoosiers took an early lead thanks to a Jennifer Glueckert single but Ball State (25-9) scored twice in the bottom of the first and went on to claim a 5-2 win in game one of a doubleheader at the BSU Softball Complex on Wednesday.
Indiana (9-26) logged seven hits in the game to nine for the Cardinals but both teams struggled to get those runners in throughout the game. The Hoosiers left seven on base and Ball State left 10 on the base paths, including the bases loaded in the first and second innings.
Freshman Breana Saucedo ledoff the game with an infield single and then stole second base to get into scoring position. A sacrifice bunt moved her to third base and she came in to score on a sharp single up the middle by Glueckert and the Hoosiers had a 1-0 lead.
Ball State posted two runs in the bottom of the inning and then added three more in the bottom of the second to take a 5-2 lead against IU starting pitcher Monica Wright.
Wright (2-9) recovered nicely after the first two rocky innings and gave up just three hits over the final six innings but was still saddled with the loss. Her final line showed five runs, three of which were earned, on nine hits.
Junior Cassie Gogreve plated Saucedo in the fifth inning with a two-out single into center field, her 12th RBI of the year with two outs.
