Olson, Hoosiers Outduel Minnesota, 1-0
April 17, 2010
MINNEAPOLIS - Indiana got an RBI triple from senior Jennifer Glueckert in the top of the sixth inning and that held up as the Hoosiers (10-27, 2-5 Big Ten) picked up a 1-0 victory over Minnesota (15-28, 1-8 Big Ten) at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday. Junior Sara Olson earned her sixth win in the circle and her second career complete game shutout.
The Hoosiers did not get their first hit off Minnesota pitcher Alissa Koch until the top of the fifth inning when Kelsey Stander laced a single to center field. It wasn't until an inning later when Kelli Ritchison's swinging bunt put the leadoff batter on base for the first time. Glueckert followed with a line drive to the gap in right center field to allow Ritchison to score standing up from first. The Hoosiers went on to load the bases with just one out but a couple of ground balls to the infield prevented the second run from scoring.
Olson (6-11) allowed just four hits and Golden Gopher base runners reached second base just twice in the game. She issued just one base on balls while striking out five on her way to the win. Minnesota did not get the leadoff batter on the entire game and were 0-for-7 with runners on base.
Koch (0-14) surrendered three hits, handed out three walks and fanned just two.
The last time Indiana won at Minnesota was April 18, 2004, also by a 1-0 score.
Indiana and Minnesota will conclude the weekend series on Sunday with a 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT game. Live audio and live stats are available on IUHoosiers.
