Tulsa Gets Past Hoosiers in Game One
April 18, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Jennifer Glueckert had two of the three hits in the game for Indiana (7-31) but it was a two-run home run from Tulsa's Christian Timmons that propelled the Golden Hurricane (27-14) to the 3-0 victory at the IU Softball Field on Saturday.
Senior Ashley Hobbs (2-12) suffered the loss despite allowing just two earned runs in pitching her fifth complete game of the year. She allowed three runs in all on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Tulsa got a three-hit shutour performance from Indianapolis native Jackie Lawrence (12-4), as she also struck out 10 and walked just one.
The Golden Hurricane got a leadoff walk from Brooke Smart to start the second inning and was followed with a line-drive down the left field line off the bat of Timmons that hooked around the foul pole and was just high enough to clear the fence for her third home run of the season. They would go on to add their third run of the game in the top of the third inning with the help of an IU error to make the score 3-0.
Indiana's best threat came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Glueckert led off with her fourth double of the season, over the head of Smart in left field. But Lawrence buckled down and retired the next three in order to end the IU scoring chance.
