COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Indiana offense produced a couple scoring chances against No. 19 Ohio State in the second game of the doubleheader at Buckeye Field, but in the end, the Buckeyes' offense was too much as they handed the Hoosiers an 11-3 loss in six innings.

IU freshman Amanda Wagner lifted her fifth home run of the season and junior Cassie Gogreve drove in her team-leading 21st RBI of the year. Another freshman, Breanna Saucedo, had two hits for her 13th multi-hit game of the season.

The first inning once again proved to be the undoing for the Hoosiers (11-29, 3-7 Big Ten) by allowing Ohio State (28-11, 7-1 Big Ten) to score six runs. The Buckeyes actually scored at least one run in all six innings.

Indiana rallied to get back in the game in the top of the second inning on Wagner's deep shot to right field, cutting the OSU lead to 6-2.

Ohio State got one of those runs back on a leadoff home run off the bat of Whitney Cooper, her seventh of the season, to make it 7-2.

The Hoosiers mounted a furious rally in the top of the third inning against Ohio State starting pitcher Megan Miller. Saucedo singled up the middle and then stole second to start the inning. A groundout by Kelli Ritchison moved Saucedo to third base for the heart of the IU order. Senior Jennifer Glueckert and junior Sara Olson drew back-to-back walks to load the bases for Gogreve. The South Pasadena, Calif., native dropped an RBI single to right field and the Ohio State lead was just 7-3 with still just one out in the inning.

Ohio State replaced Miller in the circle with Melanie Nichols, the starter in game one, and she induced a ground ball back to the circle to cut down the lead runner at the plate for the second out and then a strikeout from pinch-hitter Brittany Stein.

A home run from Rebecca Shultz in the botto of the third and then a two-run home run by Alicia Herron in the fourth put the OSU lead back up to 10-3. They plated the game-winning run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Herron.

Olson (6-13) took the loss for Indiana, allowing eight runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings of work. Senior Monica Wright came on in relief and gave up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning before freshman Jessica Dobson pitched the final inning and gave up one run on three hits.

Nichols (15-2) logged the win for Ohio State by pitching the final 2.2 innings and giving up just one hit. Miller tossed the first 2.1 innings and gave up three runs on four hits but did not last long enough to earn the win.

The game was carried live on as part of their streaming video package. Fans can catch both games on the actual Big Ten Network station at 3 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. ET on Friday, April 23.

Indiana is back at the IU Softball Field on Saturday when they host Northwestern at 1 p.m. Live Audio and statistics will be available on

The appearance by Monica Wright was her 116th as a Hoosier, the fifth-most in Indiana history ... after going hitless in the first game, Breanna Saucedo went 2-for-3 in the second game to continue her run of not having consecutive hitless games this season ... the home run by Wagner ended a 1-for-22 slump ... Jennifer Glueckert went 1-for-2 in both games, matching her career .500 batting average against Ohio State (she was 5-10 in previous games)
