CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Indiana softball team was swept  by a Big Ten opponent for the third time this season, dropping its final game with Illinois this afternoon. The Hoosiers fell 8-0 in six innings to fall to 3-13 in Big Ten games and 19-27 on the year. Illinois improves to 4-11 in conference play and 14-25 overall.

Lora Olson threw 4.0 innings in her 19th start of the season. She allowed five runs on five hits while striking out three in the loss and falls to 6-11 on the year. Brooke Boetjer closed out the remaining 1.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits.

UI's Shelese Arnold picked up her second consecutive shutout against the Hoosiers and allowed just two hits in the contest, with Samantha Heyman and Jenna Abraham accounting for the IU offensive production today.

After going down in order in their opening at bat, the Hoosiers looked to do the same to the Illini batters in the home half of the first. Olson induced a ground out and a strikeout to quickly put two away in the inning. A two-out walk brought UI's Jess Perkins to the plate and she sent a two-run home run over the left field fence to put her team ahead, 2-0.

The Hoosiers fell into a three-run deficit after surrendering a run in the fourth. UI's Alex Booker singled up the middle in that frame and beat the throw to second on a fielder's choice that put a pair of runners aboard. A sacrifice bunt moved them to second and third and a single by Jessica Davis pushed across Illinois' third run. After a ground ball out, Kelsey Dotson fired to Wagner at third to pick off her third runner of the season, good for the third-most in the Big Ten.

Indiana's defense faltered in the fifth with a pair of errors which eventually attributed to three runs for Illinois. After the leadoff get on base with a single to left, a base hit was sent to right field and hit the glove of Shannon Cawley but rolled into the outfield to allow the runners to reach second and third. Boetjer then checked into the ballgame to take over duties in the circle, where she got a ground ball out for the first out of the inning. A squeeze bunt gave Illinois its fourth run of the game and a single to third plated the Fighting Illini's fifth run of the ballgame. With runners at the corners, the home team attempted to steal second base. Dotson's throw was off the mark and rolled into the outfield to allow one run to come across. Boetjer would strike out the final out of the inning, but not before the Hoosiers fell into a 6-0 deficit.

Illinois loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth after a pair of walk and a single. Another free pass from Boetjer sent the seventh run home and put the game-ending eighth run on third base. Boetjer would get a ground ball to get the lead at home for the first out of the inning, but a single to left would drive in a run and end it in six.

The Hoosiers will return to action on Tuesday, April 23 for the dedication game of Andy Mohr Field against Ball State at 6 p.m. EST.
