BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The IU softball team was not able to duplicate its late-inning rally from game one in a 9-0 loss in six innings to No. 18 Illinois at the IU Softball Field on Wednesday. Four different Hoosiers (11-32, 3-10 Big Ten) had a hit in the game to account for all four hits.

As the tendency has been the past handful of games, the opponent has been able to break into the scoring column early and put Indiana in a hole early. That was the case again in game two, as Illinois (35-5, 8-2 Big Ten) had a 4-0 lead just four batters into the game to chase IU starting pitcher Sara Olson (6-14).

Monica Wright came on in relief after tossing a complete game in game one, and pitched the final six innings. She gave up five runs on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Illinois was led at the plate by Meredith Hacket, who was 4-for-4 with four runs driven in. In the circle, freshman Pepper Gay (12-1) logged the win to continue her impressive rookie campaign. She gave up four hits, six walks and struckout seven on her way to the win.

Breanna Saucedo, Jennifer Glueckert, Cassie Gogreve and Amanda Wagner had the only hits for the Hoosiers.

Indiana will hit the road for a pair of games at Wisconsin this weekend, both of which will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Saturday's game will start at 7 p.m. ET and Sunday's game will be at 2 p.m. ET. Live audio and Gametracker stats will also be available.
