Indiana Defeated By Wisconsin, 4-1
May 1, 2010
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Badgers (17-28, 2-10 Big Ten) took advantage of a couple of lapses in the field by the Hoosiers (11-33, 3-11 Big Ten) to score three unearned runs and hand Indiana a 4-1 loss. Senior Jennifer Glueckert drilled a pair of doubles in the game, both of which were nearly home runs.
In the top of first inning, Glueckert laced a double that one-hopped the wall with two outs and then came around to score on a single to right field by cleanup hitter Sara Olson to give Indiana a 1-0 lead.
But in the bottom of the frame, Wisconsin used an IU error on leadoff batter Katie Soderberg's ground ball to second base to score a pair of runs later in the inning and take a 2-1 lead, a lead they would not give up.
In the second inning, a passed ball moved a UW runner to third and later came in to score on a infield single for the third run of the game. Finally, in the fourth inning the Badgers scored their first earned run of the game on their way to a 4-1 win.
In the fifth inning, Glueckert stepped in and launched a ball to deep center field that hit the top of the wall, less than two feet from clearing the fence for her first career home run.
IU starting pitcher Monica Wright (3-11) was able to dance around eight hits over six innings by fanning eight and walking just two while allowing four runs (one earned).
Letty Olivarez (11-21) earned the win for Wisconsin, going the distance and allowing one run on seven hits.
The teams will be back at it on Goodman Diamond Sunday at 2 p.m. ET, a game that will be aired Live on the Big Ten Network. Live Stats and Live Audio will be available on IUHoosiers.com
