May 5, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Hoosiers (25-25, 9-10 Big Ten) used a two out three-run double by Cassie Gogreve in the first inning to get by the Nebraska Cornhuskers (31-19, 12-6 Big Ten) by a score of 4-2 at the IU Softball Field in game one of a doubleheader.
Meaghan Murphy (12-11) was brilliant in the circle for Indiana, allowing just two runs - coming on a home run in the seventh inning - on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
The Hoosiers got walks in the bottom of the first inning from Kelsey Brannon, Amanda Wagner and Brianna Meyer to load the bases before Cassie Gogreve lined a double to center field that cleared the bases and put IU in front, 3-0.
Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, Indiana used a wild pitch by Nebraska to score an insurance run and take a 4-0 lead.
Murphy had it on cruise control from there until she allowed a two-run home run to Courtney Breault that made the score 4-2. But she retired the next three batters in order to end the game and get the complete game victory.
Gogreve finished the game with two hits and a run scored while Brannon drew three of the eight walks issued by Nebraska pitcher Ashley Hagemann.
Hagemann (22-15) gave up four runs on two hits while walking eight and fanning 12.
