COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Indiana Hoosiers (37-17) suffered a 2-1 loss to the DePaul Blue Demons (40-13) on Saturday morning in the first game of the NCAA Regional in Columbia, Mo. The Hoosiers will now play Illinois State at 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday night, where the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.

Indiana starting pitcher Morgan Melloh (32-16) went the distance in the circle, allowing just one hit - a single in the sixth inning - but walked four. The Hoosiers also committed three errors in the field behind Melloh, but ultimately it was a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning that allowed the winning run to scamper home.

The Hoosiers were able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning when Melloh led off the frame with a single to left center. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jenna Abraham and then to third on a wild pitch by DePaul starting pitcher Lindsey Dean. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Kelsey Stander hit a tapper in front of home plate that DePaul third baseman Lynsey Ciezki tried to flip home to get Melloh, who was trying to score from third. The flip to the plate was not in time as Melloh was able to avoid the tag and give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, the Blue Demons tied the game on a throwing error by the Hoosiers.

Melloh then got in a groove over the middle innings until the Blue Demons put a pair of runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth. But the senior left-handed pitcher was able to get a strikeout to end the threat.

Then in the top of the seventh inning, with two outs and runners at second and third, a wild pitch that topped off the top of Cassie Gogreve's glove went to the backstop and allowed the runner from third to slide in under the tag for the eventual winning run.

Indiana had four hits in the game while DePaul had just a single by Samantha Dodd in the sixth inning.

This was the first NCAA postseason game for the Hoosiers since qualifying for the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

The Hoosiers will now fall into the losers bracket of the double elimination tournament and will play the loser of Illinois State and No. 5 Missouri at 6:30 p.m. ET.

    Melloh by the numbers:
-With her start against DePaul, Melloh has tied the school record with 46 starts this season
-She also moves into second place on the IU single-season complete game games with 39
-Melloh now has 84 career games with at least 10-plus strikeouts
-She extends her school and Big Ten strikeout record to 488 this season
