LAS VEGAS -One UNLV run in the third was just enough as the Indiana softball team fell to the Rebels, 1-0, in its third game of the Alexis Resort Classic on Saturday morning. With the loss, IU drops to 1-2 on the year, while UNLV improves to 2-1.

The Rebels rally in the third started with an infield single off the bat of Morgan Bostwick. She lined a pitch up the middle that was deflected off the left arm of IU's starting pitcher Mariangee Bogado. Bogado was forced to leave the game after being hit.

Junior Megan Roark took over in the circle, as UNLV's Joanna Jackson sacrificed Bostwick to second. On the bunt, both IU corners charged in and when sophomore catcher Tory Yamaguchi picked up the ball and made the play at first, Bostwick took third with no one covering. Marissa Nichols then lined an RBI single though the right side.

IU posted just three hits in the contest, but none with runners on base. Freshman Janetta Deaven broke up the Rebels' no-hitter in the fifth, with a single through the right side. Indiana did have two hits in the sixth, but freshman Rachel Carlson was thrown out at second trying to advance on a blooper down the left-field line. Senior Ashley Griffiths wound up singling after that play.

Bogado (0-2) picked up her second hard-luck loss of the season. She went two innings allowing just one run on two hits. She also struck out a batter. Roark pitched brilliantly in her relief stint. She blanked UNLV the rest of the way, scattering just two hits, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Jacque Kerrigan (2-1) earned the win with a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits, while striking out six.

Indiana will take on Utah State in its second game of the day. That battle is set to begin at 11:15 (PST), with Roark back in the circle.
