Feb. 10, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten Network announced the schedule of softball games to be carried live this spring and the Indiana softball team will be featured in four games. The network will cover the two games at Michigan State (April 11 and 12) as well as the two games at Penn State (May 2 and 3). All of the games will be aired live and in high definition.
"The Big Ten Network has been a tremendous addition to us and the conference and we are thrilled to have four of our games broadcast to a national audience this season," Indiana softball head coach Michelle Gardner said.
With the games being aired live on the Big Ten Network, the times for the games have been changed. The games at Michigan State will now start at 12 p.m. Eastern (originally scheduled for 1 p.m.). The game on May 2 at Penn State is now slated for a 4 p.m. start while the May 3 game is now scheduled for a 11 a.m. first pitch.
Each softball team in the conference will be on the Big Ten Network at least three times, as the network will carry at least 25 games during the 2009 season.
"With the network now available to more than 70 million people nationwide, the Big Ten Network is thrilled to give increased national exposure to Big Ten and softball," network president Mark Silverman said. "We know that fans will especially enjoy watching these games in HD."
The Hoosiers opened the 2009 season last weekend at UCLA and will continue play this weekend at the Marriott Houston Classic hosted by the University of Houston. The first opponent will be Texas State at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central on Friday night.
