Huddleston Named IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week
Feb. 20, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, iuhoosiers.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending Feb. 11, junior softball player Jennilee Huddleston earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"Jennilee paints such a clear picture as to how our program is to be represented," Indiana head coach Stacey Phillips said. "I truly appreciate that others recognize how diligent Jennilee is with her studies while still having a strong part in our successes on the field, as well. Balance is sometimes a tough task to grasp, but Jennilee has that taken care of. She is absolutely deserving of this honor."
Huddleston hit .417 in the Hoosiers' opening weekend, helping Indiana start the season with a 2-3 showing at the Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston, Texas, on Feb. 16-18. Huddleston picked up hits in four of IU's five games, including a 2-for-3 effort against Southern Illinois. Her fourth-inning home run against Centenary on Friday, Feb. 16, proved to be the game-winning run in the Hoosiers' 3-0 victory. For the week, had five hits in 12 at bats, drew three walks, scored four runs and collected four RBI. She had a double and a home run on the weekend, giving her a .750 slugging percentage.
According to academic advisor Kelly Noonan, Huddleston has done an excellent job of managing her academic career.
"Jennilee is an outstanding student-athlete," Noonan said. "She is extremely focused in the classroom as well as on the field. Jennilee is majoring in business marketing and does a great job balancing her athletic commitments and academic demands. You can count on her to get the job done, and when she commits to something, you know she will give it her all. Her discipline, work ethic, and positive attitude will sure pay dividends down the road."
