Houston, Texas-- The Indiana softball team fell to the University of Houston, 12-2, to end the second day of play at the Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston, Texas. The Hoosiers' record dropped to 4-5 on the season while Houston improved to 10-5.
Sophomore Tory Yamaguchi led the way for Indiana after going 3-3 with a homerun, triple, RBI and a run scored. Senior Karly McCormack continued her impressive offensive explosion, hitting 2-4 with an RBI.
The Hoosiers had four different pitchers in the game with sophomore Megan Roark taking the loss.
Houston got an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a homerun by Stephanie Glowacz. The Cougars came back in the second to score three additional runs to go up 4-0.
The Hoosiers got on the board in the fourth inning when Yamaguchi smacked a homerun over the centerfield fence.
The Cougars broke the game open in the sixth when they batted around and Glowacz hit her second homerun of the day.
Later in the seventh inning, Indiana tried to mount a comeback when Heather Stillians singled to left and then scored on a base hit by Karly McCormack.
Indiana wraps up the Crowne Plaza Classic tomorrow morning when they take on its first nationally ranked team, No. 12 Nebraska, at 11:00 a.m.
