    HOOSIERS TRAVEL TO NFCA TOURNAMENT

    THIS WEEK: Indiana will travel to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic softball tournament. The Cream and Crimson will play #10 Florida State Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. The Hoosiers will also play two games on Feb. 28. At 4 p.m., the Hoosiers face Massachusetts, and then they take on Florida at 8 p.m.

    GAME DATA: The third Leadoff Classic will take place in Columbia, Mo., and it will feature 20 of the nation's top collegiate teams. The competition will be held on South Commons Stadium and South Commons Complex.

    ABOUT INDIANA: Indiana stands at 1-2 with a victory over Baylor in the Louisiana Classic last weekend. Five Hoosiers have posted a batting average of .333 or higher. Senior Trina Valencia leads the charge with a .556, followed by junior Khara Good (.444), senior Monica Armendarez (.400), freshman Jennifer Pullen (.333), and junior Jaime Thedford (.333). Head coach Diane Stephenson enters her 11th season at the helm of the Hoosiers. She has recorded a career record of 329-234-2. Julie Moss is in her fourth year as an assistant coach, and Donna Bonebrake is starting her third year.

    ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Florida State Seminoles have recorded a record of 8-1 and currently are ranked #10 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, and UMASS and Florida are both receiving votes. UMASS holds onto a 1-3 record, and Florida claims a 6-3 record.

    LAST MEETINGS: This will be the first meeting in IU's history versus Florida, but the Hoosiers have played Florida State numerous times. In their last meeting in 1996, the Seminoles defeated the Hoosiers 3-1. UMASS also defeated Indiana in 1995 in their last face-off by the score of 3-1.

    NEXT UP: Indiana will come back home to the IU Softball Field next Wed., March 3 to host the University of Indianapolis at 4 p.m. After that contest, the Hoosiers will head west for the Fresno State tournament.
