TAMPA, Fla. - The Hoosiers beat Kent State 6-5 after sophomore catcher Brooke Monroe hit a two out, three run homerun to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs in the seventh, freshman Heather Suca led the attack with a walk. Then, freshman Lisa Mattke singled, putting runners on first and second. Monroe came up to the plate and hit a three run shot to win the game for the Hoosiers.
Indiana is now 1-2 on the season, while Kent State drops to 0-4.
The Hoosiers were scheduled to play Michigan at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, but the game has been postponed to Sunday, Feb. 27 at 4:00 p.m. at the USF Softball Complex.
"It was a really great win for us," said assistant coach Jen McIntyre. "We came back and fought through seven innings to win the game. It's a great win for us to build on."
The Hoosiers will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 27, as they continue
play in the USF-Gladstones Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Hoosiers will play
South Florida at 2:00 p.m. and No. 9 Michigan at 4:00 p.m. at the USF Softball
