    FIRST PITCH
Indiana went 3-2 last weekend at the Cathedral City Classic to improve to 8-7 overall on the year, the best start through 15 games since a 10-5 start to the 1997 season. Of the seven losses so far this season six have been to teams that are currently ranked in the NFCA Top 25 or receiving votes.

Morgan Melloh leads the team in the circle with a 6-7 record and has pitched 80 innings and has 112 strikeouts, easily the most among conference pitchers early in the season. Breanna Saucedo leads the team with a .365 average at the plate while Sara Olson is 2-0 in the circle and is hitting .364 with 11 RBI on the season.

    MORGAN MOWS `EM DOWN
Senior pitcher Morgan Melloh has started her Indiana career just as she did her Fresno State career - by being a workhorse in the circle and registering strikeout after strikeout. She has eight complete games to her credit and 80 innings pitched to go with a Big Ten-best 112 strikeouts. She has five games with 10+ strikeouts, led by a 14-strikeout effort against No. 4 Florida last weekend in Palm Springs. She followed that up with 11 strikeouts against No. 14 California.

Melloh's career total of 1250 strikeouts, putting her in 21st place on the NCAA career strikeout list, just eight K's from moving into the top 20.

    TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AN OPPORTUNITY
Freshman Ashley Warrum had just four at-bats, all in pinch-hitting situations, as the Hoosiers arrived in Palm Springs last weekend. She was inserted into the starting lineup in the second spot in the order as the designated player and responded in a big way. She had a pair of hits against Cal State Fullerton and then came back with three hits against Loyola Marymount in the tournament finale, including her first career triple.

MY FIRST COLLEGIATE HIT WAS A...
Freshman outfielder Jenna Abraham collected her first collegiate base hit in style at the Kajikawa Classic, drivinga 3-2 pitch the opposite way over the right field fence for a three-run home run to break open a close game against Cal Poly. The Fishers, Ind., native finished the weekend hitting .333 with four hits and two runs scored.

Another freshman, Meaghan Murphy, made her first hit count as well with a two-run single down the first base line against Nevada. The fourth freshman, Ashley Warrum collected her first collegiate hit against Cal State Fullerton with a single to left field.

    JUST A "BRE'S"
Sophomore shortstop Breanna Saucedo continued her torrid hitting from her freshman year into her sophomore season, as she leads the team with a .365 batting average and has seven multi-hit games to her credit in 2011. Her career three-hit game total was increased to five after she collected three hits against DePaul in Clearwater

OLSON TAKES HER TURN IN THE CIRCLE
Senior Sara Olson made one start during the opening weekend for the Hoosiers, but she made it a good one as she gave up just four hits and three runs - two earned - over six innings while striking out five against Cal Poly for her 17th career win. She was able to work around five walks and stranded eight Mustangs on base in the outing, the 90th of her IU career.
